New Year's Resolutions: Advocates Prepare for Change in 2020

Each Dressember, I feel connected to advocates through our passion for the fight to end human trafficking once and for all. However, every advocate has his or her own passions, both within and alongside the issue of human trafficking. We all have goals and plans for the future which support and move beyond the broader issue for which we all advocate. These passions are manifest in our New Year’s Resolutions. Here are some of the resolutions Dressember Advocates are taking on in 2020.

I resolve:

to buy fewer clothing pieces than I did this year and if I do buy any, it can only be ethically made or from a secondhand store. - Tania M.

I resolve:

to be a better steward of what I have been given. From time to family and friends to writing and everything in between. - Katherina T.

I resolve:

to set more intentional goals for myself. I am not a goal-oriented person, but this is something that has been put on my heart! Which works into my other resolution: to volunteer more. I have a very flexible job and definitely could make more time to help my community out more. - Megan S.

I resolve:

to walk in God's purpose, may He guide me to carry out His will and may I speak life and love in all those He places in my path. - Karla S.

I resolve:

to be a more conscious consumer. I started a blog about a year ago dedicated to celebrating brands making the industry a better place for us all and educating consumers on the issues. I would like to continue that mission and expand upon it next year and the years to come! - Jamie C.

to keep finding creative ways to fight against human trafficking in my community. - Ceci L

I resolve:

to keep my plants alive, read 1 book each month (minimum), prioritize doing the little things so they don’t turn into bigger things, and invest in people more. - Becca B.

I resolve:

to raise money for an adoption. Growing a family has always been a dream of mine. - Dora M.

I resolve:

to only buy clothes from fair trade companies/ thrift! - Meri K.

Audra+Hill+-+Miranda+Cecil.jpg

I resolve:

to be a better steward of the gifts that God has given me. - Theresa S.

While all of these advocates may have very different resolutions for 2020, each one is using their passion to create change, whether in their own lives, in the individual lives of others, or at a community level. Dressember or not, advocates are planning to carry the same spirit of change into the new year. The lesson to take away here is twofold: Dressember stretches throughout the year in the spirit of change for a better future, and there are many ways to effect that change. Let’s all move toward positive change in 2020 together.
